Turn and face the Change
by Shannon (rivlee)
at January 29th, 2007 (09:56 pm)

::waves:: Hello everyone, this is Shannon aka rivlee your friendly, neighborhood stressed owner of the Sweet Dreams Sanctuary archive. As you may or may not have known, things of many a various nature happened in the last few weeks that are causing some changes to go through at the archive.

Due to personal reasons Rhapsody has left the archive. We wish her well and appreciate all the work she put into the archive.

Minuialeth would normally be making the posting rounds, but she’s knee deep in studies and exams some I am emerging from the my little hole in the sand to take the reins, until, you know, I am knee deep in studies and exams.

Of the changes that have come to the archive, we have updated the Terms of Service and the Help pages. I would encourage everyone to go give them, at the very least, a once over.

A set of warnings have been added for fictions. You can use these warnings when you upload a new chapter or story to the archive. The warnings we have so far are under thisCollapse ) conveniently placed lj cut.

Any suggestions/ additions/ changes to the Terms of Service, Help Page, or Warnings are welcomed.

We have added a "Television" section as a main category and sub-categories will be added as needed.

Kyou Kara Maou has been added to the anime/manga category and a character list has been uploaded.

Any suggestions/ additions/ changes to the categories are also welcomed.

We also have a new lj group just for questions and support, sdsquestport. Please feel free to join and post.

I hope everyone has a good night!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled fandom,

And the Winners Are...
by Rhapsody the Bard (rhapsody11)
at December 6th, 2006 (10:36 am)

The 2006 Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards are concluded. Many, many thanks to everyone who participated, including authors and volunteers as well as volunteers who worked so hard to make this year's awards happen.

You can see a full list of this year's winners at our LJ,

You can also read the reviews left for these stories and access the rest of our site's features at http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2006/. If you do not have an account you can access many of the features by clicking the "login as guest" link.

In the next few weeks we will begin our annual post-mortem. Was a certain aspect of the awards confusing? Is there a policy you would like for us to consider changing? If so, please email mefasupport@gmail.com. You can also join the Yahoo group mefa-discussion to participate in these discussions.

Thanks again for all of your support of these awards, and I look forward to 2007. :-)

MEFA banner voting
by Rhapsody the Bard (rhapsody11)
at December 1st, 2006 (04:44 pm)

current mood: calm

Hi all!

Voting for stories and authors are over. We had an amazing turn-out, and a group of volunteers including myself are busy getting the results ready to post. We hope to do that in a few days. In the meantime, there's one more thing you can vote on: award banners.

Over the past months we have received eighty-four banners created by Nienor Niniel, Rhapsody, and Thevina Finduilas. This is enough to give us a banner in every category. For eighteen of those awards more than one banner was submitted, so we have polls decide which one will be used. The one that gets the most votes will be made available to be used for the final banners.

The polls will run through the end of December 4. As always we use the official timestamp of our website. To see this, go to http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2006/ and look in the bottom-left corner.

This year the polls to decide this are hosted at our website instead of at our Yahoo group. This is a big change from last year, but we hope it will be much more convenient. You do not need a log-in to our website to vote on this. The polls record your IP address so that the same computer can only vote once.

To vote, please go here:

If you are curious which banners will be given to the winners where only one was submitted, feel free to visit

to see which banners have been created.

If you run into any problems, please contact the fanart admin at:

Happy voting!

Site Update
by Rhapsody the Bard (rhapsody11)
at October 11th, 2006 (04:21 pm)

current mood: calm

Please take the time to read this, as it will prove helpful to everyone.

Alrighty peeps, time for another update.

First of all, we would like to welcome our newest member, Lady Kementari.

Second, the following categories have now been expanded:

Anime/Manga Fanfiction

Naruto (added)
Demon Diary
Gundam Wing
Red River
Sensual Phrase
Weiss Kreuz
The following should, now, have a complete character lists:

Star Trek

The Next Generation
The Original Series
Deep Space 9

Final Fantasy
Site changes:
When selecting the main categories Tolkien FanFiction, Manga, Star Trek & RPG, you will now be required to select the fitting subcategory under it.

You will get a message which says:

The category is locked, please select a subcategory. And you will see that you can select, from the same drop down menu the subcategory.

This solves a lot of problems and extra maintenance for the administrators who have been moving stories to the appropiate subcategories for a while now and selecting the right main characters. This is of benefit for you too, it will lead you to (almost) completed character lists.

Right now the admins are working on the Star Trek and LOTR character lists.

That's all folks...for now!

On behalf of the admins,

Minuialeth & Rhapsody

Important Announcement about MEFA Fanart Competition
by Rhapsody the Bard (rhapsody11)
at August 30th, 2006 (11:00 am)

At this very moment, all participating readers and reviewers of the MEFA's are writing the gifts every author will receive in November: reviews. But for the award winners we do need many banners to hand out at the end of this year's MEFA's.

So far, we have received lovely banners made by Thevina Finduilas, Nienor Niniel, and myself. But we are still looking for more banners in the following categories, which are:

Times: First Age and Earlier, Early Third Age, Late Third Age, The Great Years, The Fourth Age and Beyond and Multi-Age

Genre: Adventure, Alternate Universe, Drama, Humour, Nonfiction and Romance

Races: Cross-cultural, Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits, Men and Villains

Now you might think, I'd like to make a banner. What do I need to know? You can read all about it here in the FAQ:

There is no need to sign up for the fanart section of the MEFA awards, all banners can be sent to the following address: banners@mefawards.net .

You should receive an email when the banner is received by the fanart admin. If you have not heard from us in a week, please email us to make sure everything is okay. The fanart admin will take care of placing the banner at right spot on the site, giving it the correct title and filling out the details. If you do have additional questions, your fanart admin Rhapsody will gladly answer them.

But before that, if you have more questions regarding which images to use and such, please read the FAQ first: http://www.mefawards.net/faq/viewforum.php?f=7

We hope before the 20th of November to have a banner or banners for every category. Between the 21st and 24th of November 2006 members of the MEFA community can vote for the banners at the MEFA-awards site and not through the yahoo groups as it happened the previous years. But we will notify all participants in time.

Voting for the MEFAs
by Rhapsody the Bard (rhapsody11)
at August 19th, 2006 (12:08 am)

Voting for the Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards is well underway, but it is not too late to start. Voting is open through November 20. Write a review for your favourite nominated story or author; the longer the review, the more points you give to that story or author. You can vote for as many or as few as you like, and the competition can be quite close so every vote really could make a difference.

In order to vote you will need to either be a nominated author or a member of the [MEFAwards] Yahoo group. If you are not yet a member you can join by clicking the blue button in the top of the page at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MEFAwards/ . If you do not have a Yahoo account please contact mefasupport(at)gmail(dot)com and I will help you get signed up.

If you have previously logged in to either http://gabrielle.sytes.net/MEFA2005/ or http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2006/ but have forgotten your password please email mefasupport(at)gmail(dot)com.

Now, for some quick announcements of interest to MEFA voters and authors. Remember, these dates are based on GMT.

If you are the author of a work-in-progress competing in the MEFAs, please remember to contact mefasupport(at)gmail(dot)com if it is completed before the end of voting on November 20. For a list of the nominations we have listed as works-in-progress as of 8/12 please see

(Some of these authors have already contacted us regarding their WIP.)

Reviewers, please take note that if you have labelled one or more of your reviews as "final", you will be unable to edit it yourself beginning September 1. If you think you will want to edit your review please change it to "draft" or "hidden" before then. For more information please see

The MEFAs recognizes both stories and authors. The process for reviewing authors is similar to that for reading stories, but it is one that many people struggle with. I have posted an explanation of author reviews at

And last but certainly not least, we are discussing how to improve our nomination form at our [mefa-discussion] Yahoo group. If you are not a member and would like to participate, please join by clicking the blue button in the top-right corner of

The discussion of the first part of our nomination form begins at

and I would appreciate any and all suggestions that people have.

If you have any questions or need help participating in the award, please do not hesitate to post at our [Mefawards] Yahoo group or by emailing me at mefasupport(at)gmail(dot)com .

2006 MEFAs Nominations to Close Soon
by Rhapsody the Bard (rhapsody11)
at June 13th, 2006 (03:04 pm)

The end of nomination season is about to close soon, so perhaps some reminders are in order. :-)

First, it is coming. Nomination Season ends on June 15, one second after 23:59:59 GMT. All times are GMT and based on the official time used for the MEFA website. See "Page Served At: " at the bottom left corner of any MEFA page; this will display the official time that you displayed that page at. Make sure you get any stories you want to nominate, nominated by then.

GMT probably isn't the same as your local time. It's currently 04:12:57 AM on 6/6/06. For the current time around the world please see http://www.worldtimezones.com/ . For the convenience of Americans, New York is GMT-5 hours (it's currently 11:12:57 PM on 6/5/06).

Second, don't forget poetry. If you have nominations left and would like to nominate your favourite poem, please go ahead and do that. Poetry is definitely eligible. Essays and WIPs, too.

Third, if you are an author who has had a story nominated, make sure that you email your author to let them know you've finished the nomination form when you have done that. You can see whether your nomination is complete by logging in to http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2006/, clicking on "Browse Nominated Stories", and finding your story. If it says anything besides "Nomination Complete" and you think you've done everything you need to do, please email mefasupport@gmail.com. Nominators can also check this page to see if stories they nominated have been finalized. If you see one that hasn't and would like to offer help getting in touch with the author, please feel free to email the above email.

Authors have until June 22 (one week after nominations close) to get their nominations finished. Otherwise they can't compete.

If you haven't tried to nominate yet and plan to, please try sooner rather than later. If there's anything that needs fixing we want to have time to do it. :-)

Please feel free to email mefasupport @ gmail.com with password requests, questions, and concerns.

And I think that's about it! Happy nominating.
